North Andover School Administrators Doing It Big Per Usual…Suspend Girl From Volleyball Team For Giving Her Drunk Friend A Ride Home

NORTH ANDOVER (CBS) — It’s tough for Eleanor Cox to talk about how heartbroken her daughter Erin is over the punishment she received for doing what she thought was right. “She’s very fragile and I’m worried about her. Very worried about her. She didn’t do anything wrong,” Cox told WBZ-TV on Sunday. Two weeks ago, Erin received a call from a friend at a party who was too drunk to drive. Erin drove to Boxford after work to pick up her friend. Moments after she arrived, the cops arrived too and busted several kids for underage possession of alcohol.A North Andover High School honor student, Erin was cleared by police, who agreed she had not been drinking and was not in possession of alcohol. But Andover High told Erin she was in violation of the district’s zero tolerance policy against alcohol and drug use. In the middle of her senior year, Erin was demoted from captain of the volleyball team and told she would be suspended from playing for five games.

So I guess what North Andover is saying here is they’d rather have drunk high school kids drive themselves home, risk killing people rather than having sober friends pick them up. That’s pretty much the precedent they are setting here right? That if your drunk friend calls you and asks for a ride home you should just ignore them. Tell them to figure it out themselves. Because even though you may be saving their lives they shouldn’t be drinking in the first place so if they die that’s on them. “Like sorry Jill…I’d love to pick you up but I don’t want to get in trouble so why don’t you just drive yourself home. Try not to die or murder anybody.”

Seriously this is so school administrator it hurts. Just a complete disregard for common sense. Hey newsflash high school kids drink. They always have and they always will. The best case scenario is they do it in safe places and they don’t drive. The girl who called her friend should be commended and the girl who picked her up should be commended. Just when you think school administrators and their zero tolerance policies couldn’t get dumber they do.
