For reasons that we all know, the stock market has not only survived, but thrived during...

-- a level-7 nuclear disaster in a major G-8 country

-- routine government economic reports that are filled with erroneous conclusions that are revised sharply worse in the weeks/months after the initial releases

-- sovereign debt downgrades

-- a terrible economy with persistently high unemployment for years

There's no reason to believe that it won't survive a sovereign debt default indefinitely, as long as the pump is operating and the fiat is flowing.

Heaven help the debt picture when interest rates eventually rise. Imagine what it will cost just to service the debt. -nfg-
