Addicts don't get clean when they have Mommy letting them live in the basement and giving them spending money and doing their laundry. They get clean when their Mother gives them the tough love and tosses them out on the street and cuts off the cashflow with which they are sustaining their addiction. Addicts don't get clean until they hit bottom.

We had a wonderful opportunity to kick junior out to the street so he could kick his spending habit. Sure, we would have all felt some pain. But the pain from kicking bad habits and addictions is part of the process. It helps us to remember to avoid going down that path again.

When we allow rubber stamp increases in the debt limit, that is the same as saying there is no limit. It is the same as giving a junkie $500 and saying "don't spend it all in one place".
