Thanks. I tried Bukowski years ago but couldn't get it. I'll try again.

I've read the others.

Read Kerouac when I was a kid - can't remember much of it.

If you didn't get Bukowski I wouldn't bother giving it another try. It's one of those things like Monty Python, Frank Zappa and the Rocky Horror Picture Show that I tried and didn't get. I sat in a theater once at midnight with my friends all dressed up as Rocky Horror characters and they played the transvestite and the young couple corrupted by the thing and when they told the audience that it was my first time everyone got up and shouted "VIRGIN!" and it just made me uncomfortable. My friends would explain it to me over and over to no avail. I had one friend who insisted that Zappa is the modern day Mozart. He was dead serious and ready to defend his position but I didn't want to go there. This was a well educated smart guy and it was religion to him.

I'm risking a smack down turning Ahhaha's message board into a book club so I'll move on. The government shutdown seems to be over and to be honest I suffered no ill effects during it other than having to avoid all news outlets during the "crisis". The Chinese didn't land on the beaches of California, the WW2 vets stormed the barricades at the monuments, Yosemite closed, the administration couldn't even find a way to connect the shutdown with someone who contracted cancer. Big deal. Both sides seem like players in an absurd circus.

So much for the old joke that Canada is America's hat. Our DC clowns are making it seem like America is the load in Canada's pants.
