The article gets right into the nitty gritty of research on the subject--which establishes (according to them) no measurable educational benefit can be linked to attending pre-school (meaning higher test scores in grade school and or a higher chance of enrolling in post secondary education).

The article then delves into a political motive for the preschool funding of offering "free" child care to poor people via the tax payers. Article concludes a much better use of the money is to put it into kindergarten and 1st grade education.

Can't comment on the research discussed--don't know enough. Will see if there is another way to post the article.

Hot topic here in NC as we have had a superior court judge rule that children from poorer counties can't be denied enrollment in pre-school as it is part of the obligation on part of the state to provide equalizing measures to poorer counties to compensate for their lack of being able to fund "extras". State is arguing, essentially, that the State's constitution never intended a pubic education requirement to include access to pre-school.
