As you may know, last night I voted against a clean debt ceiling increase and short-term government funding bill in the U.S. Senate.

After watching this President rack up more than $6 trillion in debt since taking office, I could not in good conscience agree to raise the limit on his credit card without concrete long-term spending reforms.

Every year the President promises the American people he will tackle our fiscal crisis, and every year when it comes time to put his money where his mouth is, he sticks his head in the sand.

Republicans are more determined than ever to implement the spending cuts and structural entitlement reforms we need.

I'm hopeful that we can do what the President and Harry Reid have proven completely incapable of doing: Enact meaningful reforms to secure the long-term fiscal health of our country.

Thank You, and God Bless Texas,

Senator John Cornyn
