As far as "most cellular phone owners" (your words), NXTL couldn't care less about the typical cell phone user. Since NXTL offers a premium service at a premium price, it's clearly targeted at heavy users. Most folks user cell phones for emergencies and "Honey, pick up a quart of milk and a loaf of bread on your way home from work" calls.

Who cares what they talk about as long as they pay the monthly minimum and use up off-peak bandwidth that otherwise goes to waste?

Either Nextel's management is shortsighted, or their network has some inherent capacity constraints. Either way, Nextel is in trouble.
