Here's a question on the mechanics of being short a stock. MHR has a large short position, the float is 170 million shares, and there are 36 million shares short.

So MHR recently issued some warrants to purchase MHR stock at $8.50. For every 10 shares of the common you own, you got one warrant.

How do the 36 million shares short get the warrants to issue to the people that they bought their borrowed shares? Surely MHR only expects to issue 17 million warrants (since the float is 170 million). Where do the extra 3.6 million warrants to cover the short positions come from?
