"Sorry, new languages are just reinventions of the wheel at this point. "

I worked as a software engineer, and I don't see that at all, Dave. I see programming languages in a most primitive state, as are computer architectures in general. We've just had both for a very brief time now, in the stretch of civilization through time. Developing software does make one appreciate how marvelous we humans are, able to do so much, with such little programming required!

We'll get to a point someday where we can just tell the computer what we want it to do verbally, and it will program itself to do that. As things we didn't consider or miscalculated come up, we'll tell it to fix them. Beyond that, computers will watch us, anticipate our needs, and program themselves to meet them. When we get there, software engineers will be thought of as we consider "scribes" today.
