History tells us it works the other way around i.e. it was the scientific method that brought us out of the dark ages. It allowed us to check stuff for accuracy. Written language was huge as it allowed us to transfer infor from one generation to the next. Guttenberg. was important because he allowed us to disseminate that information to lots of people.
