USBL release off of stockwire:

USBL's Monmouth County, New Jersey Entry
Tabs Rick Barry As Their New Head Coach

EATONTOWN, NEW JERSEY, December 9, 1997- The
United States Basketball League (USBL) was on hand today
when its newest franchise, the New Jersey Shore Cats (based in
Asbury Park, New Jersey,) announced that they have named
Rick Bary as their new Head Coach. The former Golden State
Warrior and current Hall-of-Famer will take over the post as the
first Coach in the Shore Cats history.

Barry comes back to New Jersey where he started his
tremendous basketball career. Barry grew up in Elizabeth and
starred at Roselle Park High. He then attended the University of
Miami where he led the NCAA in scoring with a 37.4 ppg
average. From 1963-1965 Barry amassed 2,298 points and
1,274 rebounds, both still-standing career highs for the
University. In 1965 the NBA's San Francisco Warriors selected
Barry with the fourth selection in the first round. Barry went on to
win the Rookie-of-the-Year while averaging 25.7 points and
10.6 rebounds. Barry's 14-year professional career saw him play
four years in the ABA (Oakland, Washington, and the New York
Nets) and 10 years in the NBA (San Francisco, Golden State
and Houston.) He was a 12-time All-Star and was named the
NBA Championship Series MVP in 1975 when he led the
Warriors to the NBA Title. In 1987 Barry was selected to the
Basketball Hall-of-Fame and in 1998 his #24 jersey was retired
by the Golden State Warriors. Finally, in 1996 Barry was
selected by the NBA as one of the 50 greatest players ever.

Rick has made it clear in the past that he would like to get back
to the NBA as a coach. As the new Head Man of the New
Jersey Shore Cats, Barry should get the necessary training to
prepare for the next step.

Since the inception of "The League of Opportunity" in 1985,
there have been 113 USBL Alumni to go on and play in the
NBA. Among the many alumni are Tyrone "Muggsy" Bogues,
Chris Childs, Mario Elie, Avery Johnson, Anthony Mason,
Charlie Ward and John "Hot Rod" Williams.

The USBL is the first and only publicly traded Sports League
allowing fans to become owners.
