Obama was probably made aware of all this on entering office, and continued it. It's his JOB to protect us. I agree. But look at it from a politician's point of view. What if he were to shut down the NSA spying on everyone program. And then a terrorist attack like the Boston bombing were to occur. Republicans would be all over it, claiming that by shutting down the program he deprived the intelligence community of needed tools that could have stopped the attack. Look at all of the controversies that have stirred up over made up stuff, what if there was actually a kernel of truth? Don't get me wrong. I am not happy those programs exist. But I can see why they haven't been shut down.
