Xfinity is test marketing cable modem at 20 mbps speed for discounted price of $29.95/month for 12 months. This is the base channel speed of edgeQam ethernet in cable plant. Higher speeds use more channels in parallel. RCN wifi with the new software is connecting at 54 mbps speed but the real download speed is up to 2 mBps or 16 mbps as shown in Firefox download manager.. 1-2 mBps is fast enough for a few hundred mBs of data.in a few minutes download time. Of course, the money is made with added telephony package on the modem($86+/month combined). In fact internet wifi modem is a steal. 2 years for the same price will come and be gone too soon. You probably noticed, the seed increased at the end of the long download. This is because other users finished in the packet frame before you did on long download. Next software improvement is update 802.11n carrier frequency change or shorten wait state.
