iirc, we rolled strips of newspaper up and dipped them
in parafin wax. Same for strike anywhere match heads.
We also carried dry tinder in our packs. Dryer lint sounds
xlnt, even for flint/steel fire.

You can boil water in a paper cup. The cup will burn down
to the water line. I couldn't believe it, until it was proved
to me. What an epiphany!
