Resolving Lumia 1020 Issues ...
Hi Lindy,
Not sure that I can be of much help (although perhaps some even though I'll porobably mention several things you already know) and since I really haven't publicized the existence of this board it's unlikely that there will be too many individuals that can pitch in to help with Lumia 1020 issues or optimizing its performance. I have had several hands on sessions with the device on outings with two friends but my own imaging phone is a 3 year old 12MP Symbian Belle Nokia N8 with Xenon flash.
<< No matter what I do, it takes two pictures each time. >>
Do you mean that it is taking and storing both a 34/38 MP and oversampled 5MP image? That of course is what the dual capture feature of the (default) Nokia Pro Cam app does and by design that allows cropping, reframing re-zooming, rotating, panning of the the original full res image on the camera and resaving to a new downsampled 5MP image as well as the capability to post editthe full res image when offloaded to a PC. You should, however, have the capability to save just a 5MP image with this Pro Cam setting (losing the dual capture benefits) ...

Using Smart Cam or Windows Phone Camera instead of Pro Cam only 5 MP images are stored (up to 10 in the case of Smart Cam) at the expense of quality. << A lot of the pictures come out more yellow than the scene, and I don't know how to permanently adjust for that. >>
Is this yellow cast primarily in shots you take in ("the venues I take them in ... Bars and dance halls" with flash on e.g.), as opposed to daylight photos?
As a design choice Nokia chose to avoid a floodlit look with images taken with Xenon flash turned on but depending on interior lighting or lack of same lighting the 1020's Xenon flash does generally produce an overly yellow cast compared to its obsolete predecessor (Symbian Belle Nokia 808 PV). It appears that will be reduced in the new Nokia Camera app which combines Pro Cam and Smart Cam and which will be available shortly in the US through the Windows Store (but currently is only available in a few countries).

The good news for Lumia 1020 owners is with upcoming updates it will just improve with age. The 'Black GDR3' update late this year or early next should be very significant.
