That's simply because there is a wacky portion of the Republican Party and the Democratic Party... at this point in time the politics are such that there are virtually no issues being debated that pit the wacky dems against more moderate dems... ALL the debate is right of that... and DOES pit the wacky wing of the REP party against the normal republicans. The wacky DEM wing can opine that they are left out, but there is no real debate about which way they'll vote on most of the stuff EXCEPT those very few issues that have come up where they ganged together with some republicans on NSA & war.

Very simple really.
