TELEVIDEO PARTNERS WITH OUTDOOR ELECTRONIC DISPLAY FIRM
SAN JOSE, CA (September 3, 1997)-TeleVideo, Inc. (NASDAQ:TELV), a
leading manufacturer of high performance computer monitors and terminal
displays, today announced the completion of a strategic alliance with
Applied Photonics Technology, Inc. (APT), a high-tech engineering firm
specializing in advanced electronics display technology.
APT has developed electronic Outdoor Media Display systems for
advertising use that feature high-resolution, full-color video images
comparable to home television picture quality. These are the first and
only systems of their kind with the brightness necessary for outdoor
viewing in sunlight, greatly broadening the potential applications. This
and other technical accomplishments have given APT a significant
intellectual property portfolio.
Key markets for APT's systems include high-end billboard and illuminated
signs, sports stadiums and arenas, transportation terminals, volume
retailers and malls, and safety/public information displays. Display
sites using APT's technology will be linked into local and national
networks, allowing individual display locations to share space and time
with a wide variety of advertisers and other information sources.
TeleVideo has invested $3 million in the smaller company. Both firms are
based in San Jose, CA.
