This is ironic. We knew in the 60's about this war on the poor; and the Republican Horatio Alger myth.

Tinkle down economics.

Then we looked away (screwing around mostly), and now need to fight that war again.

Will Durant told us to be forever vigilant against barbarians who always roam the perimeter of civilization.
