I also am among the members who SI has decided to treat to their smorgasbord of ads Did a bit of experimenting to see how best to speed up the page loading since they opted to employ the super distracting animated variety of non-relevant content, which of course loads slower and has greater nuisance value, a twofer if you want to dilute the desirability of your site The sites load almost as fast as before when either of the 2 effective ad blockers AdBlock or AdBlock Plus are employed I actually use both so that probably introduces some delay in itself, but it is faster than waiting for the good hands guy to show up So if you want to see the site about like it was before, you will have to block the SI logo as well, since to make room for the hucksters they moved it over some of the access tools (Good design) That is easily accomplished with these tools as well Here is a Wikipedia discussion In the spirit of what the internet used to be, they are free and can be accessed from the Wikipedia site en.wikipedia.org
