Hatteras Unveils New Yacht Featuring SPD-Smart ProductsFriday, November 1st, 2013
Hatteras.doc

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA. November 1, 2013. Hatteras Yachts unveiled their new flagship motor yacht, the new 100 Raised Pilothouse, at the 2013 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show today, at C Dock #355. One distinctive feature of the new 100-foot motoryacht by Hatteras is the dual skylights in the galley, which feature SPD-SmartGlass as standard equipment.

During the day, the SPD-Smart skylights substantially reduce the heat in the galley of this Miami-based yacht, making a noticeable difference in the effectiveness of the air conditioning on board this luxurious floating mansion. Published data by Mercedes-Benz has found that use of its MAGIC SKY CONTROL roof using SPD-Smart technology instead of conventional tinted glass can lower cabin temperatures by up to 10C°/18F° and offer 95% heat blockage. That is the difference between a sweltering 90F° and a comfortable 72F°.

A Hatteras spokesman explained that at night, in the dark state, the skylights also reduce light from the galley interfering with operation of the boat from the pilothouse.

SPD-Smart technology has become the world’s best-selling smart window technology and is featured on many commercially available world class products, including the Mercedes-Benz SLK and SL roadster. Next year SPD-Smart technology will become available in the all-new Mercedes-Benz flagship S-Class sedan and standard equipment on all cabin windows for the new HondaJet’s being delivered.

Research Frontiers has invested over $90 million to develop SPD-Smart light-control technology which allows users to instantly, precisely and uniformly control the shading of glass or plastic, either manually or automatically. Research Frontiers holds over 450 patents and patent applications worldwide and has built an infrastructure of over 40 licensed companies that collectively are capable of serving the growing global demand for smart glass products in automobiles, homes, buildings, museums, aircraft and boats.
