Lots of smart people here, so here is the question:

I have heard for many years that there is essentially no art before 40,000 years ago. Yet we have had the same brain for 100,000 to 200,000 years.

So what happened 40,000 years ago that we seemed to hit critical mass and started to think and be creative?

I was reminded of it because the author (Robert Sawyer) I am reading now keeps bringing it up?
