Reginald:

I think the Pentium II "might" be twice as fast as a Pentium 166, maybe even slightly more.

But, remember, the same code segment was running in EMULATION mode of the Power Macintosh 350.

Here was the code I ran from the DOS debugger in each:

mov dx,800H
aaa:
xor cx,cx
xxx:
loop xxx (sit here 2^16 or 65,536 times)
dec dx
jnz aaa (do it for 2048 times
int 3 (breakpoint)

Note: This code segment runs 2048 (decimal) times, sitting in a loop of 65,536 (decimal)decrements back to zero. (Total in excess of 128 million instructions executed.)

On my Pentium 166, it takes 7 seconds to execute. On the PowerMac in emulation mode, about 3.5 seconds to execute.

Geez, these things are FAST. Gives you a feel for just how bloated and inefficient office applications have become. I guess the programmers are lazy because they know the speedy CPUs will mask their slop.
