There was a time in my life when I did go "bare" (for about 8 months between college and army enlistment) as I didn't have the money for it, but I knew I needed it and felt like I could have bought something that covered me at a decent price (as in fact I did when I went to law school--called up my NY life agent and and told him I needed health insurance got a quote and explanation of benefits and got on with the program).

Somehow we got to this point in time in America with that being the system--that people would learn responsibility.

Your fundamental point of view, IMHO, is that people aren't capable of assuming responsibility and need to be provided for (not true for you though is it?). That is not the values of this country historically and the fundamental disagreement going on between the parties is the argument of what the values should be going forward.

I am for safety nets and assistance that helps people stand on their own feet, but not for things that lead them into dependency and lead them to be looking to the government to provide for their needs first. Which, I think, puts me somewhere in the middle of the frey and lives me or less with nothing to say to both wings---other than to please move toward the middle.
