Why do you suppose Lucent and Ascend have not come out and stated that they are not talking - "We categorically deny that any deal is impending..." for example.? Don't you think they would get tired of all the phone calls and put an end to the rumor? Also, do you think Ascend would risk letting this rumor continue in light of what happened last quarter (earnings surprise)? Don't you think its possible that the powers that be at Ascend or Lucent may have given CNBC a call and said "Look this information is not public information and you and your source may be in violation of something or another if you continue to leak this... etc." The silence is deafening... as my brother put it. Just some thoughts...
