One of the companies that my firm provided automated test programming support too was Philip Morris, the tobacco company. They have perhaps the worlds largest factory site in Richmond, VA. Most of thier automated machinery used in the manufacture and packaging of cigarettes was made in Europe. England, Germany and Italy. The reason why they came to us for Test support of thier Circuit Boards (some with Embedded Controllers), is that these companies would charge 500.00 to 1000.00 or more per board simply to repair. Not too mention, shipping and tariff charges and weeks to months delay in the repair pipeline. Think these companies want to remediate any factory y2k problems? Sure at a cost far greater than $7000.00. Normally, very little supporting documentation is ever provided the customer - the end user, other than CCA schematics. No Source Code, Equations, Flow Charts, Theory of Operation, Functional Descriptions etc. Think PM is the only company in this situation? Think again.
