It is baffling to me.

If the owner, whoever he may be, wanted to make money on the site, he ought to have consulted the users first and get a buy-in of whatever resulted from the dialogue. He would still have had the final say, but would have gotten valuable input in the process. And while it would have been a pain in the butt for a month while it was ongoing, it still would have been worth it to him, since he is getting grief anyway.

Personally, I don't care for the ads, but having both used and not used ad blocker over the past couple of days, they each have their objectionable features, but I can also live with each of them. The site has timed out on me a couple of times when I don't use ad blocker, although when it doesn't time out the difference in how the page loads is only barely noticeable. I have a pretty fast HD along with plenty of memory, so perhaps that makes a difference. I wonder what it looks like to a user with an SSD.
