I can't remember the source right now, but it was a reputable one. Possibly it was National Geography. Anyway, it was a pretty good look at the human family tree, including its many extinct branches. Ours was the only one who had ritualistic burials, took care of the elderly, and buried tools with our dead. Taken in combination of my readings in other areas, it turns out that these actions are all rooted in ethics and religion (even if they were prehistoric religions). And they had profound effect on human evolution by directing our social rules. The full discussion will take more time than I can spend.
