The Greeks and Romans founded a more sophisticated society than anyone until the present scientist's took over. The ancient Greeks were truly amazing. Amazing culture.

And when Rome and other tribes took Greece apart, we lost a lot of scientific knowledge, and then when the Germanic and other tribes finished off the Romans in 400 AD and Europe was now without a central government we devolved into categorical misery, of starvation and early death and pervasive warfare with no security at all.

Then the Black death came and half of Europe died and it resurfaced off and on for the next three hundred years.. So out of this morass the only structure left was the church and literate monks.. But it never did much for the people. They were nothing more than a small life raft in an open ocean.

And the church was tyrannical and slaughtered and tortured untold people between 400 AD and 1,000 AD.

When the rationalists and age of enlightenment arose in the 1500's, mankind steadily became more civilized and pushed the dogmatic myths made of nothing but imagination, and its harsh ways, aside; until we have true civilization today. At least in our minds.

When the scientists really got to work, mankind rediscovered democracy/ republics and the rule of law and science. What the Greeks had started on 2,000 years earlier.
