I thought I hit on some of that in this post

We differ on who can lead us out. I don't see Palin or Paul being the answer. In ways they remind me of a more caustic version of Pat Buchanan. In the early 90's (post Bush) I liked a lot of what Buchanan said. In fact, James Baker, Pat Buchanan and Dick Cheney were my favorites on Meet the Depressed. I recall having a discussion with my father and he said:

"Mike, it's not what Buchanan says - it's how he says it. He's unelectable and would not play well with the American voter. When he speaks he becomes a liability to the party." Dad was right.

I hold the same view of Palin and Paul (and several others) as it pertains to being caustic, unelectable (as Prez) and a liability to the republicans. I'm not suggesting McCain is the answer but we have other options. Paul Ryan is just 1 example of a solid conservative that can present an idea without going over the top.

Irrespective of who's right, we better figure this out or next November could be painful. Just imagine Obamacare failing like we expect it to AND losing the majority in the house. That would really suck. We better learn how to present an idea because image matters if we want to retain the House in '14 and regain the White House in '16.

I now see the wisdom in what my father said. We're not competing for the right - we're competing for the center.
