Remember that car commercial...I think it was cadillac.."it's not your father's cadillac"? or was it buick or oldsmobile? I forget......

I would assert that this isn't your father's republican party anymore. Unless your father embraces big government and corporate welfare programs.

Palin and Paul may not be electable....though I think you may be wrong with Rand Paul, but they are definitely change agents. And like the liberals, we need the loud obnoxious extremists to say what needs to be said and then when the electable candidate takes the stand and has a little bit more moderate of a delivery, it looks like we are being reasonable and compromising when we are really moving the scrimmage line just a little bit more to the right.

The left has been very effective in doing this. Every compromise that the right makes with the left has the goal posts moving further left of center, even if it is a smaller amount than the extreme leftists want.

the reason that the republicans have an image problem is that their actions are indefensible. How can we preach self sufficiency and free market economies when republicans are pushing TARP? And what about our foreign policy in the middle east? Our military was chartered in the constitution to be defensive. How can we refer to things like the federalist papers to justify our interpretation of the constitution when we ignore it for the military and the free market (our middle east military presence is a hidden subsidy to the oil industry).

The republican establishment needs to understand the ramifications of choosing to compromise their principles to work with the democrats, while vilifying the tea party and libertarian conservatives. They need to understand our position and they need to understand that we are not bluffing.

What the republican party has been doing for the past 50 years has not been working. Every election our laws become just a little bit more left leaning and our government gets a little bit bigger and our desire for liberty and freedom becomes just a little bit less. The trend has to stop and it won't happen if everybody is polite about it.
