I don't think so. Paul's fears were unfounded. But it's not your salvation that is lost...it's the rewards and your place in His kingdom. I believe Paul was haunted by his past persecution of the Saints and he even says so. And when the Holy Spirit told Paul to NOT go to Jerusalem Paul went in disobedience. He couldn't forgive himself and wanted to pay for what he had done. But Jesus had paid already. You can't lose your salvation. You are sealed by the Holy Spirit...by the King and that seal can't be broken. But you can lose your rewards you think you have. Paul can't think he's running a race for his salvation because that would contradict so much else that he has written. He was worried about losing the rewards for running the race because he still blamed himself for his past.
