New Mexico man says he was anally probed 8 times after routine traffic stop

A New Mexico man has filed a federal lawsuit claiming authorities subjected him to eight anal probes including enemas and a colonoscopy after a routine traffic stop.

David Eckert claims his nightmare began on Jan. 2, when he pulled out of a Deming Walmart and failed to make a complete stop at a parking lot sign. He was stopped by traffic police.

KOBDavid Eckert has filed a federal lawsuit against authorities and the Gila Regional Medical Center in southern New Mexico, where he claims his anal cavity was searched eight times after a routine traffic stop.
His attorney, Shannon Kennedy, said officers told him he appeared to be "clinching his buttocks" and suspected he was carrying drugs in his rectum.

Deming police took him to a nearby emergency room, where a doctor refused to probe the man's anus, according to Kennedy.

In a lengthy interview with KOB-TV, Kennedy said her client was then taken to another medical facility where he was X-rayed, then received two digital exams followed by two enemas, followed by being sedated and given a colonoscopy.

No drugs were ever found, Kennedy said.

Eckert did not give consent for the medical procedures, his lawyer said.

"This is like something out of a science fiction movie — anal probing by government officials and public employees," she said.

The suit names the Deming Police Department, the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office and various medical employees at the Gila Regional Medical Center, where the procedures were performed.

All declined comment citing the ongoing litigation.
