I haven't seen good polling statistics on working class votes in NJ in the gubernatorial election. I do know a couple of things. First, as per the article I posted yesterday, Christie did any number of deals with select union leaders who returned the favor by either not campaigning for the Dem candidate or actively supporting Christie. Second, Christie did deals with the president of the NJ Senate, name escapes me, who was a former union leader to get his votes on some key issues. I don't recall which union either but I suspect that union did not campaign for the Dem candidate. In both cases, who knows how the membership voted. Unless we can see some good polling data.

Third, the public service unions, most particularly the teachers, worked very hard against Christie. And I have little doubt they voted, massively, against him.

It would be quite interesting to see some serious polling data on all this. I don't see Christie being able to get the GOP nomination, at least at the moment. But should he do so, his style will help him there. His policy positions will hurt him.
