Who did Christie run against?

There is something of a story there. Before Christie's approval rating began to climb, the assumption was Booker would run against him. But as Christie's deals and style began to take hold, Booker concluded that either might be a losing proposition or a very difficult win. So he began to look at Lautenberg's seat. He actually forced Lautenberg into declaring he would not run for reelection. But then Lautenberg died. And Booker ran for his seat. And won it.

In the meantime, no other Dem with serious name recognition would run against Christie. Until Barbara Buono decided to do so.

In this case, Christie, a strong candidate, beat Buono a weak candidate with almost no party support--see the article I posted yesterday. As many have said, Christie won the election with these margins a long time ago.
