I've added up the total monthly posts on SI for January - October, 2013, based on the first post # of each month. As you can see, there was a big jump in October which likely reflects increased political posting due to the government shutdown and launch of the Healthcare.gov website. Based on this trend, I project a little under 700,000 posts for 2013, so the annual decline continues...
| October | 61,448 | | September | 52,742 | | August | 53,876 | | July | 53,446 | | June | 53,988 | | May | 58,959 | | April | 58,746 | | March | 55,666 | | February | 53,707 | | January | 63,779 | Note: I also compared the first 7 days since SI's banner ad roll out (Nov 1 - 7) to the previous week (Oct 25-31). Lo and behold, posts increased by 14% in the 7 days after the banner ads appeared! Could this be due to the ruckus over the banner ads, lifetime membership status dispute, banning of Dale Baker from this thread, etc? Or maybe people were clicking on pages to admire the tasteful banner ads? Believe it or nto, I actually saw one for Depend briefs! :o) |
