Shield Gold (SHG-V) survey outlines targets in Quebec
Nov 7, 2013 - News Release
Shield Gold Inc. has provided the results of a detailed secondary independent analysis for the helicopter-borne geophysical surveys completed over the corporation's Buckingham and Lochaber township graphite properties in the Outaouais region of southwestern Quebec.
Discrete targets have been interpreted from the time-domain electromagnetic data. These targets conform to an idealized model for conductive (massive) graphite and are appropriate for field follow-up, initially via mapping, prospecting and trenching. A total of 53 targets were identified on the Diamond and Diamond West blocks, 49 on the Bell block and 14 on the Powerline block. These targets lie coincident with the multikilometre electromagnetic conductive trends previously identified, and are also coincident with linear trends in the magnetic and radiometric data; these linear trends could represent bedding and/or structural horizons that would facilitate the tracing of known and any new graphite occurrences along strike. All targets are located on topographically high ground with good access and favourable geology.
Initial physical properties testing of graphite-bearing hand samples from the Powerline block indicated these rocks to be moderately resistive and not particularly conductive. This infers that disseminated graphite, which also exists on the property, was not directly detected by the airborne electromagnetic methods employed in the original survey. Induced polarization test surveys are recommended over portions of the Diamond, Bell and Powerline properties, to determine if this method is effective for mapping disseminated graphite occurrences, and if this technique can be used to extend known graphite occurrences along-strike following bedding or structural planes away from the identified EM anomalies.
Shield's chief executive officer, Paul Gorman, commenting on the findings, stated: "Now that we have confirmed important data regarding the graphite occurrences on our properties, we can prioritize the targets and conduct our exploration programs in areas that will return quantifiable results. We have prepared a budget for our fieldwork which will tie in nicely to the metallurgical work that we are currently undertaking. This will allow the corporation to understand where graphite mineralization occurs and the characteristics of the graphite flake itself, for commercialization purposes."
The airborne survey data, in three separate survey blocks, was acquired by Prospectair Geosurveys Inc. of Gatineau, Que., using a Eurocopter EC120B aircraft equipped with a lightweight time-domain electromagnetic system (ProspecTEM), a Geometrics magnetometer and a Radiation Solution gamma-ray spectrometer. This cost-effective geophysical configuration is well adapted for reconnaissance surveys with the objectives of supporting geological mapping and of delineating conductors to a depth of about 125 metres while maintaining good spatial resolution. A total of 1,009 line km of geophysical data was acquired along lines tightly spaced every 75 metres for best resolution. All results are posted on the corporation's website.
About the Diamond and Diamond West properties
The Diamond and Diamond West properties comprise 26 and five claims respectively. The Diamond claims are located immediately to the north and east of the historic Diamond or Peerless mine (Lot 12 N1/2, Range IX and lots 12C, 13B, 14A, 14B, 14C, 15B, 17A, 17B, Range X, Buckingham Township). Historical reports suggest some of the feed for the original mill at the mine may have come from the current claims. The Diamond West block lies across the Riviere du Lievre from the Diamond claims; the area along the river being withdrawn from staking. The historic Cummings occurrence (Lot 15B, Range IX, Buckingham Township) is covered by the Diamond West claim block. The two blocks of claims lie within the boundaries of the Municipalite de L'Ange-Gardien.
About the Bell and Powerline properties
The Bell and the Powerline properties comprise 20 and 15 claims respectively. The Bell claims are located immediately to the east of the historic Bell (lots 1-3, Range V, Buckingham Township) and Dickson or Quebec Graphite (lots 1-5, Range IV, Buckingham township) mines. The Bell claims lie within the Municipalite de Lochaber partie Ouest. The Powerline claims are located in the Municipalite de Lochaber. Graphite is historically noted as being present on Lot 10, Range VII of Lochaber Township within Powerline block of claims; this is the same area where graphite has been observed in outcrop during preliminary follow-up to the airborne geophysical survey.
