11/8/13 Contest Update
To my surprise, the Contest median showed a decent gain for the week and the Nasdaq Biotech Index only fell a fraction. So, for the time being, the Ariad debacle doesn’t seem to have significantly destroyed confidence in the sector. However, two stocks I own real world, ANAC and DDXS, were both hit by multi-million share distributions from funds to their limited partners. I wonder if others have seen such distributions and they’re becoming more prevalent.
Here are the week’s numbers. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 46.84% YTD (vs. up 42.09% YTD a week ago). Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Biotech Index finished up 49.12% YTD (vs. up 50.57% YTD a week ago) and the Nasdaq Composite Index finished up 29.80% YTD (vs. up 29.89% YTD a week ago).
Although GERN gave up much of its early week gain, it still helped RKRW’s portfolio maintain a grip on the Contest lead with a 131.59% YTD gain. ROBO’s portfolio moved up to second place with a 119.86% YTD gain and GHMM’s’s portfolio, up 117.28% YTD, slipped to third place.
At Friday's close, 35 of the 39 Contest portfolios were in the black with 19 of the 39 beating the NBI.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week.
Portfolio adjustments: None
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Peace & good health,
Bulba
