This is not an insurance company profit issue, its a cost shifting issue. If one group of people are paying less than the cost of their health insurance consumption, the rest of us are paying for more medical consumption than we are using.

Why is it ethical for society to subsidize medical coasts for people who are reducing their useful lifespans by overeating themselves into an early grave, or for danger junkies who like to sky dive or swim with sharks??

In fact, I believe quite strongly that it is completely unethical for us as a society to shield people from the consequences of their decisions. By doing so, we are depriving all of us of the societal contributions people can continue to make if they don't put themselves into an early grave.
