I've been a member since Jul 17, 1996 and I was promised a free lifetime membership when I joined, but, admittedly, I do not recall if that promise included no advertisements. I doubt it did, but I simply do not recall.

The new advertisements are annoying, particularly the sidebar ones to the right. If the right sidebar advertisements could be removed, that would be an acceptable compromise, IMHO.

Ideally, all veterans (yours truly) should have the opportunity to disable all advertisements, but the next best option would be to allow veterans the option to disable the right sidebar ads. Those are the ones that are particularly intrusive and offensive.

I would be willing to upgrade to the lifetime membership to kill all ads, but how long will the site be around? Anyone?
