Only discrete devices InvenSense offer are 2 or 3 axis gyros, rest are combo in case of accelerometer and gyro(6-axis), or in the case of the 9-axis, using a 3rd party magnetometer packaged with the 6-axis combo. They don't currently offer a pressure sensor in either form. The Android OEMs seem happy with combos, whereas Apple have remained with the discrete. Will be interesting if they release a new smaller discrete gyro, might tip us off on what's happening.

Yes the 7-axis with pressure sensor is slated for second half of next year, my understanding its internally developed.

With the algorithms, agree the most open flexible route is with a sensor hub, but these developments are always pushed and pulled in a certain direction by chip suppliers, or sometimes by an OEM in order to gain an advantage. I can see Qualcomm wanted to do something that benefits them from an SoC perspective, and I can see Apple looking to do their own algos, or buying someone who has a head start, in order to differentiate their products. Samsung might follow suit, or more likely rely on certain key suppliers to do that.
