A bit of elaboration on my previous answers. End of life care is a luxary that we cannot afford at the moment. It is expensive and it returns little back to the society. This may sound heartless, but it is true. A resource spent in one area has to come from somewhere else. So while we have so many other issues, hip replacement for an 80 years old does not belong in public purse.

As to the veterans' care, it is a contract. I have nothing against redirecting some of the funds spent on obnoxious high tech toys on better care for veterans. But any extra care they need beyond the general public one provided should come from VA and as part of their contract with the military.
