Re 3D Printing.
DDD, maybe, because they are obviously succeeding, but I'm not attracted to their shotgun acquisition strategry.
SSYS, yeah, more focused and with more awareness of the need for metal.
Both of the above are limited for me by a focus on plastics and primary orientation toward the consumer market, which has some interesting challenges beyond the enthusiastic fiddler.
XONE, yeah, although they aren't growing right now like I wish they were so some people are waiting for a bit more proof.
VJET, dubious, since it is much higher valued than XONE and yet has a fraction of the revenue and nothing special about it that I can see ... rather the reverse, actually as XONE is doing metal and VJET is still doing sand, I believe.
HPQ, hardly, they have only announced and they have goofed up many such acquisitions. Biggest chance is that they will overpay for one of the other players and then fumble with the results.
Not mentioned are
AMAVF, very promising, unique technology and best precision of anyone. If they can successfully complete the current round of speed and accuracy improvements, the only problem should be managing the growth.
ONVO, very speculative, but also very unique and lots of potential to be really interesting.
There has been a lot of discussion on TMF on the NPI forum. |
