The great falling away will happen when the antichrist appears and demands to be worshiped as God and all those Christians who thought they would be raptured away from any suffering realize that pretrib rapture is a false teaching and they are going to have to refuse the mark of the beast and be martyred. They will not be prepared for that and they will walk away from Christianity and take the mark because they will be angry that they were betrayed by the Church and it's teaching. They didn't listen when Jesus said many times in Matt. 24:1-31 to not be deceived. There Jesus outlined the 70th week of Daniel and Jesus placed the rapture after the Great Tribulation.
