TO ALL: Bean, Steve, Kurt, Rod, Alomex et al
the "mysteriously vanished" Scott Volmar was correct of course. Focus on the Suite!.
As we hear reports of companies still using WP 6.1 upgrading, and saying "where have you been all this time?", it becomes clear that what Novell, and then Corel, did to WP reached extreme foolishness. The blame lies mostly on Novell which fired most of the WP sales force in search of synergies from its aquisition, choosing to rely instead on its own salespeople already in place. Fat Chance! Different accounts, different contacts, different companies. Failure built in.
Corel, with no history of selling to the corporate market, wasted almost two years figuring out that they could not impact the corporations without a sales force in place.
One more time for "Scott of the well-reasoned posts":
Focus on the Suite
Your corporate customers are telling you. Not just your shareholders! Yes, all those new sales guys need a fuller bag. Corporate sales need more product than WP8 alone, or WP plus Draw. But those can come along in their own time. "Foot in the door" comes first. Larger sales follow.
Today we see the instant replay - Oracle - duh. Did Larry Ellison get so enthralled with his new NC toys that he neglected the core database business, or what? From the TV commercials you wouldn't even know that ORCL made databases.
Focus on Core Products
Remind you of Corel's JAVA distraction? Cowpland likes his toys too much. When the JAVA looked very hot he had a suite JAVA toy. Now he has an NC toy of his very own. (Well its been delayed a little but he's gonna have it real soon now.) And he wouldn't be without his ...uh... non-business related... uh.. toys.
FOCUS ON THE SUITE
Saw a new WP8 commercial on CNN today. Saw a new ad in PC Magazine "Corel & Intel" p. 86. (wonder who paid what %) Its not exactly a brand new day, but I think? I can detect the barest hint of coming pre-dawn light in the sky to the East. Now if Cowpland can just shut up and focus on doing the job he is paid to do.
