There are a number of reasons SI management may need to ban a member. If the person is creating multiple aliases, harassing someone with no end in sight, spamming stock pumps to everyone on SI via private and public posts, or exposing a technique that circumvents the website owners making money.

In a year from now, when the adds are long forgotten and just part of the experience of using SI, I would be surprised if SI management doesn't ban people for using add blocking programs. If I were in managements position, I would put the verbiage in the terms of use for new sign ups immediately. And publish new terms of usage for those like me who have been around a long time to agree with them.

Yes, the posters make SI what it is and what it can be in the future. But when I look at this small site on the internet, I see a pool of some of the most talented and thoughtful writers anywhere. And what's astonishing is we've lost a ton of amazingly great people. Far too many have passed away, and others have simply moved on to other places on the net. Yes, the posters make SI, but what made the posters stay as loyal as they have, is an intuitive interface that is effortless to navigate, that was made flexible enough to grow organically with like minded individuals as a part of a community.

What has served to reduce SI's foothold are members who think the site is all about them. It is not. Twitter or Facebook, or a thousand other sites can serve that ego need. This site is a community and right now the management of SI is telling the community they need to make some money to remain viable.

It is really that hard to understand? Is it really that hard for members like myself who have paid virtually nothing to use the site for over 15 years (besides a few tee-shirts), to work with management and not complain about the method they've chosen to make a few bucks?

I don't think so....
