Forgive yourself Brumar....Every kid reacts in different ways to whatever event. We are surrounded as a kid by our own microcosm... I remember the day I heard that FDR had died...I was VERY young, and don't remember much of anything that day, other than that day where both my parents were crying...I was much too young to know why they were crying, nor the importance of that day. I had no idea of who he was....only that he was "The President".

As an adult, I remember back to that day, and think that perhaps it was because the very ground they were walking on had been shaken to the core. I don't think my Dad had respect so much for the man, as for the Presidency itself. Now that I think about it, Mom liked much of what he did ... I think she liked the man and the Presidency. Both of them made us as kids and young adults to respect the United States and what we as a country stood for.

After all, turns out they were only 23 and 15 respectively when FDR became President...They lived in the middle of the Great Depression, and the day FDR died they were 35 and 27 respectively.
