You know when I get banned from a thread titled "Beat the street with SI traders," there is no way this site is about stocks or trading anymore.

Silicon Investor stopped being a site about stocks and trading 12 years ago +/- 1.

Silicon Investor was really a place where people who were enjoying the tech bubble could come and talk about trading, share information and most importantly......socialize. There certainly was an illusion of trading/investing purpose, but if you look at the cool people logos of before and today, it clearly shows a theme of socializing. Back when SI Bob owned SI, I suggested that he needed to respin the site as a social media site. The first thing that the new owners need to do is realize that this is not a site about investing or trading. That may have been the common theme of what brought most of us here, but it isn't why we stayed.

After the new owners come out of denial about the identity of what they bought, they need to figure out how to redesign the site such that the public forum aspect remains the same, but the individual identity aspect and immediate frivolous communication aspects are enhanced.

The next thing they need to do is tell the user base that there are going to be some changes, The public forum interface will remain the same, but they are making changes that enhance the individual identity pages and social interaction interface.

And then they need to drop the bomb. The name "silicon investor" is going to be retired and put in the internet hall of fame.

BUT as an incentive to get us all to stay and to promote the site in its re-birth, of course we all get free lifetime memberships (with no ads)

If the new owners don't figure out that the value in this site is not in being an investment website or in the silicon investor brand name and that it is in the intellectual property that was originally developed by the Dryer's and subsequently modified along the way by a few others, then the fate of the site will be a few more brief ownerships by people who see value, but don't understand what it is exactly, until finally, a few of us pitch in some funds and buy a server and run SI from one of our garages.

It's kinda like your bitcoin discussion. Until I read some of your explanations, I saw value, but didn't understand what the actual value was. If you define it as a currency, it falls short. If you define it as a commodity, it also falls short. But as a secure anonymous transaction vehicle, its value can be realized. Thank you, BTW. I went and opened an account at bitfinex based on your discussion.

Sorry that I used your post as a launching point for other topics. But it was a good lead in. I think that most of us, myself included, made the mistake in thinking that this site was about trading and investing. The trading and investing theme was incidental to what was hot at the time the site was launched.
