I spent an evening at a "eagle" fundraiser in the 80's with Barbara Bush who was drawn to me because I wasn't a politico, I told her I was a democrat, I told her that I thought her "love" of country western music was fatuous, but my husband's company had required him to make a $5k or 10k donation which he was reimbursed for. She asked my age and proceeded to tell me about her sons that were my age and younger. She talked about her hope for "Jeb", that he was their brightest spawn (my characterization, not hers), and how disappointed they were in George, who seemed to careen from one failure to the next. She talked about them trying to find a spot for him that he might succeed. They assigned Cheney to be his nursemaid or guru or whatever. We are paying for it to this day. MP
