<<<< If a kid wants to go into the trades, fine, but don't tell them they are not smart enough to go to college. Good lord.>>>>

Koan, I never thought I would say this - but I couldn't agree more with your thinking here. I had a post done this morning to Epicures use of the word "poor families" when she suggested not all kids should go on to college - but dumped it so I wouldn't get another tongue lashing. Shit! What does poor have to do with the decision to go to college? Anyone who wants to go to college today - can. AND they can do it with no or very little debt; GI bill or scholarships or grants. BUT - the child will need to be motivated. However, nothing will take the wind out of a kids belief in themselves faster than saying they are from a "poor family" and college might not be for them - or saying they are not smart enough to go to college.
