A couple of more things on education. 1) a person with less hardware can make up for it with more software. I think what many do not understand is how much smarter a person gets when they study for long periods of time.

One daughter was never in gifted and talented, but always in honor courses. We had to get a tutor for her to get through calculus, but she has mastered every intellectual hurdle ever put in front of her including UC Berkeley and she is a lawyer from a top law school. And she is smart as hell. Really smart. A smartness she earned by hard work. But she also had guidance her whole life. Most poor kids don't get that.

When my daughter went to UC Berkeley, I used to play pretty high stakes poker $30/$60 and $50/100 at the Oaks in Berkeley. Many of the folks I played poker against were the Berkeley geniuses with many IQ points above me I am sure. Yet I almost always won. I had no trouble pushing them around and they had no idea how to defend against me. Why, because I knew more about the game then they did and their higher IQ was simply no match for my software / knowledge.

As far as calculus goes, I have read only about 15% of the population can get through it easily it is so abstract. But I would ask, why is being able to master calculus so important? Is it a requirement for wisdom, to be a great president, lawyer or even doctor? I don't think so.

I went from being pretty much totally ignorant at 20 to much less ignorant today. The simple reason was my education and the fact I read a lot of books to learn as much as I could from the great thinkers. Anyone can do it and it gives great rewards. So I know the average person can become a very wise and knowledgeable person if they work for it.
